Ball handling is one of the core fundamental skills in the game of basketball. Regardless of your skill, whether you’re a youngster on the playground, a high school player trying to make the team or professional player, becoming a better ball handler will help you beat out your competition and make you more valuable to your team.
What position you play does not matter, centre or point guard, it doesn’t matter what your role is on your team, starter or bench player, improving your dribbling will advance your entire offensive game and you help add value to your basketball team.
Being a good ball handler also means that you will have more options every time you touch the ball. If you’re poor ball handler you’ll be limited offensively and poor dribbling can hurt your team and decrease your playing time.
Our goal at Free Agent basketball Academy is to help the player who really wants to take his game to the next level.
Proper Dribbling Technique.
- Your fingers should be spread apart but not so much that you’re uncomfortable.
- On each down stroke extend your arm, wrist and fingers and let the ball slide out of your hand.
- When the ball comes back to you ride the ball up and until your fingers and finger pads regain control.
- Your hand should look like a suction cup when it catches each dribble.
- The ball should be in your hand more than it’s out of your hand.
- When the ball is in your hand you have control of the ball and ball control is key to better ball handling.
